Our first day of our trip entails some serious flight time.  Our good friend Tom was kind enough to take us to the airport, saving us parking but also the blessing of being dropped off curbside, with all of our belongings on earth.
I'm only half kidding, we did actually have space available in all of our bags, more than the last Alaska adventure.

There was a group on a mission trip to Alaska on our flight from Charlotte with a group called World Changers and it looks like their final destination is Alaska so they should be on our next flight as well.

We were fortunate enough to be able to use miles  to upgrade the first leg of our trip from Charlotte to Phoenix, even though that wasn't the "long" one from Phoenix to Anchorage it was a nice way to start off the trip.

There was a young man in the row in front of us that was in full "rocker" mode, full black with the great lace up boots, chain belt and Nine Inch Nails tee.  He reminded me of my nephew Brennan when his curly hair was longer.  He had it teased out and kept pulling his fingers through it to make it stand out as far as possible.  Maybe we should have known who he was (I mean we are still relatively hip).  His dad was in coach and came up to see him; I just kept thinking that I couldn't imagine any other scenario in which I would sit in first class and have my parent in coach?  Of course, there was a time when I had US Air status and got an upgrade and LJ was in coach, but that is totally different right?  Anyway, I'm sure had that been one of my nephews they definitely would have let their Dad sit in First class. Of course I tend to believe a lot of things to be true that may not be, I prefer it that way though!

We were surrounded by beautiful white fluffy clouds during the trip.  Dinner for me was cheese ravioli and LJ had the beef.  I have a question for my world traveling friends, about half an hour before passing over Albuquerque we passed over lots of circular fields before arriving in Phoenix.  Some looked like pie charts!  So beyond Area 51 - can anyone give me some explanation?

We are about 45 minutes from landing in Phoenix-only one more flight!

Our final leg of the trip from Phoenix to Anchorage was a 7:50 PM departure (10:20 PM EST) and was supposed to be 5hrs and 40 mins long. LJ had the aisle, I had the window and we were hoping for a good "middle" seat companion. As people file in you wonder, hmmm.... Will it be him/her? We ended up with a college student named Demi, she was from Alaska but going to college in Arizona and had been called for jury duty. She reminded me of my nieces and LJ and I had a great time chatting with her, once we got to about an hour in I started watching 21 Jump Street and she and LJ attempted to watch Bourne Identity (one of our favorite go-to movies that she had not seen). The headphone splitter wasn't working well for sound so LJ just let watch it and he opted for playing games. We tried to catch a nap here and there but we're both pretty unsuccessful beyond 10-15 minute cat naps a couple times. I decided to watch a double feature and LJ had surprised me and added Salt to my iPad so that was movie # 2 and I knew once it was done we should be there. Right on cue it ended and we arrived in Anchorage about 25 minutes early. Our bags arrived quickly, we picked up the rental car and made our way to the hotel. We were ale to use Hilton points and stayed at the Embassy and while it was a great hotel we didn't notice much - we just crashed! Asleep at 2 AM (6 AM EST) yikes! What a day... But finally in Alaska!

What a trip! I don't envy you the time on the plane. I do hope the rest of your trip is as smooth as the start!

Hey - I'm not 100% certain, but pretty sure the circular fields are "formed" by the way they are irrigated. There are irrigation devices that pivot on a central point and are supported by wheels on the end with a bunch of nozzles above all the crops. As the wheels move the whole things moves in a circle. Have fun!

Sounds like the trip out there has already been entertaining. Wonder how the "rocker" did going through security with those lace-up boots? Maybe the Dad told him to sit in first class to not scare the children. No pictures of this guy? I know you probably have 6 cameras between the two of you. I think you're pretty hip, although calling the guy a young man may have aged you a little bit. :) Miss you already! Have fun!
