Doug says:
This morning I woke up again with the sun (this time without Lizzie) and went out on a run toward the Biltmore house. They have a bunch of trails that wind around the estate along the river, past the lagoon, and have some pretty significant elevation changes. It brought me out along the sunflowers that I walked along with Lizzie yesterday and up toward the flower carpet garden. It was a fantastic run with some gorgeous weather.

Once I got back, Lizzie woke up and we started packing for the trip out toward Nashville. After packing, we went downstairs to grab breakfast. I was upset that the "baked french toast" (which was really just bread pudding with a different name) wasn't out, but was replaced with oatmeal. The oatmeal was good, but I could have eaten more bread pudding for breakfast for sure.

After eating and packing, we rode up to the Biltmore house one last time to finish up the audio tour we didn't quite get to finish yesterday. We got through all the extra bits that we skipped over yesterday before our behind-the-scenes tour. I was intrigued to see the chess set owned by Napoleon on top of a table that his heart once rested on. Or at least that's the story that the audio tour told us.

We also looked a little more at the tapestries on the walls. 5 of which told the story of the love triangle between Vulcan, Venus, and Mars (Hephaestus, Aphrodite, and Ares for you Greek mythology purists, but the tapestries had Latin written on them). Venus is a whore and Mars is a man whore.. Vulcan should have just kicked both of their asses.

Lizzie pointed out a painting she really liked which she actually found in the gift shop after we were done in the house. She wound up talking herself into buying it, and because of that, we had the privilege of driving the Mariner right in front of the Biltmore house. We were only stopped twice by security, both times directed to park in the same area. Lizzie was quite excited that her car got to pass so closely to her favorite house ever.

We then got on the road for Nashville and finished the first Percy Jackson book on the way and started the second book.

Note on Earl -- Glad we're out of the Carolinas but hope our hosts make it out ok later this week when Earl is expected to make partial landfall near Cape Fear. Good luck Jackie and Pat!

Lizzie Says:
Congrats Ashley on your new job in NOLA! I am pumped to have you in the same city again! HUGS!!

HAHAHAHA!!! Venus is a whore! That made me laugh! And we're OK, I think Earl is gonna go north of us a bit so we're just looking at some wind & rain. But either way, we're OK. Love you guys!

You guys are goofy!! Hooray for Nashville today - say hi to Dave for me and tell him I'll be hunting him down in October! :)

I'm prepping for Earl too - winds have already started up... boo.
