Wednesday, and its goodbye to Ed, the final of the original crew from the North Bus except Caroline, Sarah and Em. A short ride and we get to 'Cape Foulwind' where we take a beautiful coastal walk. /this is the closes point to Oz - can't see it though! We then continue on to Punakaiti to see the pancake rocks and blow holes - which we saw spectacularly explode with spray as the waves crashed in. Followed by a real pancake for good measure!

Enough of our coastal walks, time to head to Greymouth for some shopping as its fancy dress night tonight!!! The theme is plastic bags. em had the great inspiration i should go as a marmite pot - fabulous. Any one would think i was obsessed with the stuff. ems going as a bumble bee, Sarah as tinker bell and Caroline as a magic wand. Warehouse - the old faithful cheep shop - sees us right. It has colours galore for bags as well as a multitude of other idea West coast

.

Shopping over its time to cross the Arahura river where the Jade is collected and on to Lake Mahuinapua to stay with 'Les' the oldest landlord in NZ at the age of 85 or so. Its wet so we don't see the lake or beach, but Les gets on the bus to 'welcome' us and then all the more time to prepare our costumes for the BBQ tonight.  its like craft time in Cusco all over again - loving it! I've even got my little pot of marmite as a model. Did you know that marmite requires, black, yellow, green, white and red bags? Its all in the detail! Dinner time and we're all ready.I even accessories with a yellow bin bag hand bag - we all look fab if i do say so myself! Dinner is fantastic for £4. Huge steak, venison stew etc yum.and then its time to go and tape ourselves into our costumes before returning to the bar.

the things people have come as are fantastic, there's a raspberry, a banana, nuns, twister, Liz Hurley, a penguin, the gimps...! Great outfits. The judging gets delayed and delayed until Toddy gives up waiting for Les to reappear and proclaims me the winner!!! I'm somewhat surprised - but even more surprised when i find out my surprise is a Canyon Swing worth $169! Must be my lucky night - well i think so until i see the brochure for the canyon swing the next day and feel quite ill Blow holes
Blow holes
! Its a 60m free fall drop off a canyon, which then at the 60m point turns into a 200m arc swing! I thought it would just swing. Best not to think about it for the next few days!

Thursday and off again. First stop at the bushman's centre where we see a video of deer hunting in NZ. It shows capturing and hunting by means of diving out of helicopter among other ways! Then we get to see a wild boar, possums and eels. Bizarre set up by a crazy man, but interesting never the less. Then back on the bus to head to Franz Josef. for the Glaciers. Its wet so we go straight there and book up for a glacier trek for tomorrow. Then for the avo to our hotel to spend the afternoon in the huge spa and a little banter from the kiwi bus to the stray bus at the other end of the Jacuzzi! Now i appear to be known as marmite girl - the gimps are gutted they didn't win! Sorry!! When shriveled up completely like a prune we head back to the kitchen for some spag bog, mm.Still pondering the Canyon jump, oh dear!
