This was a momentous day for Sydney - it's been 60 + years since two Queen ships were in Sydney at the same time. We had to set the alarm for 4.30 am in order to get down to the harbour for a cruise to meet the Queen Mary 2 as she sailed in. It was a great reception - dozens of boats and ships, water cannons, horns tugs etc. Maritime mayhem!!
We followed her in with just the odd photo here and there!!!! She is too large to either go under the bridge or fit into the normal terminal, so finally berthed at Garden Island which is normally reserved for the Navy. We have never seen so many helicopters in the sky at one time as all the major news agencies were giving live coverage. Made our way back to Darling Harbour by 8am for a rest!

We got back to the hotel and packed for Melbourne, the next destination on the Hamilton express. Once that was done there was time for a quick swim before returning to the city centre to welcome in the QE2 at around 6.00pm - another great reception and as she passed the berthed QM2 both sounded their horns - a tremendous noise. In the middle of this amazingly Ian met a former Nemco work colleague, Ruth, who had come on a months' holiday and had just arrived in Sydney - amid thousands of people it was staggering that we sat almost together overlooking the arrival of the QE2.

The evening ended with a huge firework display - even better than SNAPS! What a fantastic last day for us in Sydney - all of us have really loved it here and we will be sad to leave.
