It was decided that one night was enough at Cape Tribulation after being eaten alive!
A long drive back to Cairns via very twisty steep roads found us tired and frazzled, we washed up at The Coconut Caravan park, sounds iffy but was very good indeed. It was on the other side of Cairns so we had managed to get a little way south! After two nights there we moved on, aiming for Townsville down the coast. We made it here after a 4 hour drive. Hardly any traffic on the roads made the trip easy but the scenery didn't change much so a tad monotonous. Josh did his usual and managed to sleep for a lot of it, after having his school lesson in the back of the van. He is currently doing a project on the endangered Cassowary bird which is native in Queensland. Cassowary crossing signs are posted on the side of the road but as yet we have only seen one in the sanctuary. Only one lot of Kangaroos sighted so far, we thought we would have seen more, maybe further south we might. Our intention is to travel for another 4hours tomorrow, which will see us at Airlie Beach for the Whitsunday Islands where we hope to stay for at least 3 days.

Here at Townsville we are at another Caravan park in a chain called Big4. They provide excellent parks with very good facilities especially for kids - pools, playgrounds etc..
If anyone ever came touring in Oz with kids we would definitely recommend them.
Also the parks have a great variety of natural wildlife - not threatening - various birds, lizards etc..it's a great environment for all. That's enough - have we earned a discount yet?
