Oh my goodness gracious, today was a day I will never forget. So starting with the weekend. There is a huge carnival here in Puntarenas, with concerts, parades, animals, rides everything you could possibly imagine. However, it is also directly on my street. (Watch the video!) So good times, but not as fun when you are trying to sleep because it is the first day of school.
So Saturday we went big and I had all the girls, that I have met since I have been here, over to stay at my apartment and we all went out on Sat. night. Such craziness, literally 1000īs of people in the streets all hammered. There was a really sweet Reggae show and it was wicked fun. Well then Sunday hit pretty hard when I realized that the first day of school was today. The girls didnīt go back to Miramar until 8:00pm and my apartment was a wreck and I didnīt really have a whole lot planned. So I pretty much had a mental breakdown, (Thank you Mom for making me laugh).
Today was a complete an udder(sp) fiasco. The students were crazy they knew more than I did. The bells didnīt work I didnīt have a watch, they do not speak English very well at all and yeah I did my best. Because it is a private school the students bring all their supplies including poster board and printer paper and random stuff like extra pairs of shoes, and toothbrushes.  So they all mobbed in this morning with huge trash bags full of stuff. The bus was late, students were inside my classroom before I even got there. One of my students threw up, another one stole another students lunch ticket. Parents were still coming into my room until like 9:00am. My principal had words with me because the parents shouldnīt be in the classrooms after 7:45 but I didnīt know and what am I going to say to a parent the first time I meet them, sorry come back later? And one father told me his son has a huge hearing problem like seriously almost deaf. I planned an activity where they had to use colored pencils and they all had to sharpen them. And they wouldnīt share. Please someone send electric pencil sharpener. It was disastrous.

ĄOh dios mio! With that being said, I loved it!!

The best part about teaching is the kids. I got more hugs today than like the past 6 months put together. One of my students bought me a candy and another one is bringing me special Venezuelan cookies. Today was a true test of will and wits!! When is the weekend????

Wow liz,

It sounds like the actual teaching is the easy part, all the distractions of the first week, and a crazy carnival outside your home! I haven't had to deal with that in my practicums!lol

12 more days!
