You know it is going to be a good trip when you get on a packed flight and there are two empty seats next you. Well, until the very chatty man from across the aisle tells you it was unfair that you get three seats to yourself and joins you. All in all the flight was a success! After a short nap and watching the saddest movie ever, Flicka, (a personal fav of my dadīs) I arrived in San Jose. Carrying my bags weighing a collective 140lbs. including my carry on, I finally found Randall, my driver, with a cute sign that said MS. ELIZABETH ESTES, just like the movies. And I was on my way to Puntarenas.
The drive was amazing through the fog and the hills and then we started down the peninsula. Iīll admit it, I checked to make sure my door was locked. It is a little sketchy when you are entering the city. The more we drove the nicer the city became with the ocean on the left with several restaurants and hotels lining the avenida, Paseo de las Turistas.
Berny, my principal, and Bob, the owner of the school, were waiting for me at my apartment. A very nice gated little community with a pool. (Pictures are posted, I think) Then they showed me to my cute little one room apartment with a little kitchen, and a little convection oven, and an even smaller coffee maker. I though ohhhh cute.... Then he opened the back door to my full patio with dining room table, chairs and rocker, facing the ocean. A magnificent view, minus a few power lines. I am literal 25 seconds from the water. I went to bed last night by the sounds of the waves hitting the sand.
I awoke this morning to the sounds of several other things but I will get to that later. Today has been uneventful. I found the internet cafe, the grocery store and the closest bar. I am all set. I also met two of my neighbors. They have been very nice and helpful. Well I am off to the beach for the remainder of the afternoon and then to make dinner in the smallest kitchen ever, except maybe for Patīs guest kitchen.

First Day in Costa Rica
Liz,

It sounds like you had quite a day. Your apartment is really cute and I think the view is most importante!!! That would close the deal for me! I will read Day 2 and see what new stuff developes for you. This log could be the makings of a book! Let me know if you need me to send you anything.
Love you, Ellen
