Having enjoyed relaxing in Tauranga we only had one day left so are staying overnight at an airport hotel in Auckland before flying out to Santiago tomorrow afternoon. We hope to drive around the centre of Auckland in the morning. Today was wet and windy so hope it is better tomorrow. Our overall impression of NZ is good. We would definitely like to come back again and spend more time travelling around both islands. People had told us that there was not much in the North Island but there are lots of interesting areas and we could spend ages exploring more. It is the land of Ws: Wet;windy;wild;walks;wine; worth a visit. David here: Now off to the continent of the GPs....fried guinea pigs. I can hardly wait. Liz read about this local delicacy in one of her travel books and I imagined a sort of Kentucky Fried Ginea Pig chain with chips and bits. However we saw a documentary DVD on South America and the traveller treated himself to a take-away GP and it was whole, lying on its back with legs sticking up in the air. A bit like a cat that had fallen into a chip fryer. I will leave no leg unturned in finding this epicurean delight. Liz wonders what the perfect wine match would be. For me that is, as she may decline the feast. Anyway any suggestions of wine choice welcome.
