Palolem beach is quite developed but in a backpackery kind of way. Accomodation here is in the form of beach bungalows referred to as 'coco huts' which are on stilts, and they are lined all along the beach under a canopy of palm trees. There are stalls selling colourful Indian clothes and an abundance of Italian and Mexican restaurants (yay!). Unlike the beaches north of here, there aren't the rave parties and hippy scene Goa is famous for, but you still see the odd hairy person in need of a good wash! In places like this it's easy to forget what country you're in, until a herd of buffaloes come walking down the beach (or a herd of dodgy Indian men on a mission to check out all the westerners in bikinis stroll by - unfortunately a common occurance!)
So what have we been doing for 10 days? Swimming, attempting to bodysurf, attempting to tan, eating a lot, drinking Kingfisher, Kings and Castle beer (all quite good!)...and that pretty much sums it up! We had the world's tastiest tandoori king prawns for dinner on Christmas Eve, and spent Christmas Day doing much the same thing as every other day! There was a locals vs foreigners soccor game on the beach to watch, complete with firecrackers being let off every time someone scored a goal. They LOVE firecrackers here, they're let off every night, but some are the really dodgy kind that seem like they're going to blow your arm off!
It'll be a shock to the system to leave here...but we've hardly seen anything in India yet and need to get going! Tomorrow we head to Mumbai, then we meet Liz's mum on New Year's Day for adventures around Rajasthan!
