Sunday we leave this country behind for a whole year.

We set off at 1400 hours from Heathrow to Boston and head for a bit of R&R at Aunt Ann's house in Newcastle, New Hampshire, USA. From there we head down the East Coast, stopping off at Washington, Atlanta and New Orleans to name a few and then cross South to our departure airport Los Angeles, taking in a whole lot of sights along the way. We were going to go for a greyhound pass but the many "hick town" stories put us off, so we thought we would break ourselves in gently and go for a much plusher (and a hell of a lot faster!!) Amtrak train pass.

Before we go we wanted to send out some big thanks to some of you who have helped us out loads the last few months.

Nic & Robin - For letting us take over your house and live with you for the last few months, for all the freezy pops, and for looking after the car. We are gutted that we will miss the arrival of your new arrival in the new year and we would like "Bump updates" at every opportunity.

Mum - For our rucksacks (which are very comfy) and for the car which has had Simon practicing on 4 wheels again. Also thank you for learning about email so we can keep in touch more often and more cheaply. You are getting to be a bit of a pro now!! Miss you lots x. See you in Oz!

To the Dixies (too many of you to list now!!) - Thank you for letting us use your postal address so that we do still have some presence in the UK!! Hopefully there won't be too many Bailiffs round!?! Also an advance thank you for taking us to the airport on Sunday for what will no doubt be a tearful goodbye. I will try to be a good long-distance Godmother for my first year in the job!!

Mark & Clare - To both of you for making my sabbatical possible. Mark for allowing it and Clare for covering for me. Keep me updated on all that goes on and I await instructions on the jobs that you are going to have me doing!!

Denby - Big thanks to you all for making it easy for me to make this decision and for being so cool about it, I will miss the endless cups of coffee and "long" chats and in the words of my new best mate Arnie, I'll be back!!

To Dave for selling the car - REALLY!! - To James & Justine for keeping the our plants alive. Also a big thanks to everyone who has had us round to stay or for dinner while we have been homeless and for the tips and advice from you hardened travellers and most of all thank you for your support, telling us we are doing the right thing and none of you calling us mad! Sorry to those of you we didn't manage to say personal goodbyes to but it has been complete madness the last few weeks.

Well the next time you hear from us we will be gone! You can guarantee if anything were to happen to anyone it will happen to us, so equipped with excellent Travel Insurance, a degree of common sense and half a dozen Dorling Kindersley guides we are ready to take on the world.

See you all in a year.
Lots of Love
Simon and Liz
