Of course something like wine tasting attracts it's fair share of muppets and we had a nice group arrive into one of the wineries. All khaki shorts and deck shoes. One even asked the lady what the "pros" were of a certain wine
However, not everyone who goes wine tasting is a tosser, Kevin and me included, and in Crabtree we met two really nice fellas who knew infinitely more about wine than the “pros” but didn’t shout about it. They looked more trucky than preppy and obviously knew their stuff. This was also our favourite winery because the set up was so relaxed for wine tasting and the guy who owned the vineyard actually did the serving. Kevin thought it was great because he got to ask loads of questions about the making of wine, and alongside the guys knowledge, his cool appearance and shabby-yet-styled hairdo made him Kevin’s hero!
After our great wine tasting experience we went to O’Reilley Walker, one of the new and more modern wineries in an otherwise traditional valley. They had the setup of one of the bigger wineries in the Barossa Valley with an ugly modern building (with a perfect view) and a large impersonal bar type area with a trained sales person doing the tastings. Although the wine was nice, it’s a little irritating when you think the person knows what they are talking about but it turns out they are reading a script. Kevin even caught her out a couple of times, although not on purpose out of genuine interest!
Having tasted and bought enough Clare Valley wine we drove south towards McLaren Vale. On the way we took a slight detour to a town called Elizabeth. Just for giggles. Photos attached!
