Just in case our 15 month trip round the world wasn't interesting enough my brother decided to get married in New York in December to give us a little holiday from our holiday. Unfortunately Malaysia is literally on the other side of the world so some serious air miles had to be earned to get there. The 36 hour door to door trip from KL to NY was always going to be a trek, and our journey and everyone else's certainly wasn't helped by the snow lingering in Europe and the huge snowstorm in the US. Thankfully, in the end everyone made it after various detours to Boston, Washington and Dubai.

The day before the wedding we had a sort of mini hen and stag. The girls went on a Sex and the City tour of Manhattan which apparently started with Liz, Mam, Dee and Michelle standing for a half hour in a sexshop called the Pleasure Chest chatting by the dildos! The O'Donovan boys whacked some golf balls into the Hudson and made eejits of ourselves in the batting cages at Chelsea piers, especially when Brian was caught looking at the first pitch at medium speed!

On the morning of wedding all the men were standing around outside the church when Mandy's dad decided to check myself and Colm had removed the stitching from the back of our new coats and suits. He fixed Colm's coat first and then went searching for his suit underneath. "It must be folded up your back" he said. Colm opened his coat. No suit jacket. Classic. Cue quick calls to the car behind to turn around and head back to the house to pick it up. Of course he tried to blame me as his best man for not sorting him out before we left the house but i have to say that when you see the groom with his coat on, I don't think its on the the best man checklist to see if he's wearing his suit jacket! In the end all was sorted well before Mandy arrived and apart from the moment when she tried to put the ring on Colm's right hand all went smoothly.

The afters was great craic. A stretch limo for each family picked us up outside the church for 3 hours of champagne and beer around Manhattan. Mam singing along to "Tonight's gonna be a good night" by the Black Eyed Peas was a real highlight! Then to the rooftop bar bar on the Peninsula hotel on 5th Avenue for cocktails before dinner at a restaurant on one of the piers with amazing views of Brooklyn bridge. A real New York wedding. We finished the night off in an Irish pub with plenty of dancing and singing. Definitely a night to remember and we're so happy that we made it across - worth the long flights, wait time, 30 degree temperature drop and our complete lack of comprehension of date and time!

Congratulations to Mandy and Colm and thanks for a brilliant time!

Congrats! I love exploring NYC. I use the guide book 365Guie New York City It lists restaurant deals and bar specials. Saves me a ton.
