Different again from anywhere we have been to yet in India Bandavargh was a nice relaxed place and very peaceful once in the park. Unless you are in one of the resorts paying ridiculous daily amounts however it is quite difficult to get permits and jeeps to in fact enter the park - although in the end we did squeeze in 3 sessions (after some arguments) to make the complicated journey there worthwhile
. There are some really interesting animals in the park, which the photos will show, however the main attraction of the national parks in India is of course the elusive tiger and yes we did in fact catch a glimpse of 2 on our first safari. It was quite incredible just to see what a tiger does of a normal Monday afternoon - one trying to climb a tree and the other walking, sitting, playing with leaves....as tigers do! As they are not performing monkeys for the jeeps lined up on the dirt road bordering the forest, they do this on their own in the trees and therefore we don't have any great photos as they were moving in and out of sight behind the trees (we have put up a couple of our bad photos as proof!). However for anyone in India thinking about doing a safari i would definitely recommend it as long as you will be happy with the other wildlife as there is a chance the tigers elude you!
Bandavargh was not the easiest place to get to, in fact so far it is the hardest place we have had to navigate to - not just because there are no trains or buses and no one seems to know where it is! We got a train the day after arriving in Jalgoan straight out again and travelled 10 hours to Katni, a nothing town still 3 hours or more away from the national park by public transport. We were meant to wait 3 hours to 9pm to get a train to Umaria which was still an hour away by taxi, but for the first time since we got here, after some hard bargaining we decided to go for the easy option and get a taxi from Katni to the park. I have to say as we were settling into our room at the same time we would have been catching our train i wasn't sorry at all!
