We picked an interesting weekend to be in Bangkok - their new year was on Saturday and so the city is packed, with people flocking to the important sights. They also have the custom of spraying people with water, and in some cases throwing buckets of water, over passing motorcyclists (and pedestrians!!) but also flour water! It's made travelling around a bit more difficult....... We've used the skytrain and river buses as well as walking and taking taxis, but with temperatures of 37 degrees and high humidity, walking far is tiring.
We visited two of the large temple areas - Wat Pho, where we saw the huge reclining Buddha and hundreds of other Buddhas and Wat Arun (the temple of the dawn) with very ornate ceramic structures. We've also been to the Grand Palace which houses the emerald Buddha, as well as some exceedingly ornate buildings plus manicured grounds and white suited guards......the prince visited on Friday.
We visited The Jim Thompson House & Museum (designer who disappeared in 1967) which had lots of lovely pools with fish and flowers. Last night we went to the Moon Bar - an open air bar on the 61st floor - wonderful views and pleasant occasional breeze.
We are flying south today for a week relaxing at Kho Lak before returning home next Sunday.
