We enjoyed a lovely meal, overlooking the lake and watching the sunset......mmmmm. Fox Glacier and Franz Joseph Glacier next!
After a "pottering" morning catching up with washing and planning/booking for the east coast leg of our australian trip and completing our NZ census forms (we only had to complete some basic details), we were collected for our "Wanaka River Journey". We had a 20 minute mini bus ride to meet the jet boat and after donning our life jackets we zoomed off. We had a thrilling and interesting ride of almost 40 km up the river towards Mount Aspiring, seeing the "hush hush" filming of a UK TV show as we travelled. The jet boats are very fast and can travel on very low amounts of water, which is fortunate, as there has been very low rainfall for the last 6 weeks in NZ. The boat was parked and we had an interesting bush walk seeing the flora and fauna.......and on our way back to the boat we helped herd some cattle back across the river!! It was a great afternoon and good to see the area from another perspective.......we have been so,lucky with the weather.
