We were really looking forward to our day to doubtful sound and it exceeded our expectations; it rained (a little) in the night but the day dawned fresh and relatively clear. The coach with our cheerful driver, guide, coach, boat crewman, Chris (lots of multitasking!!) collected us and we drove to Lake Manapouri; after a peaceful sail through some wonderful scenery we visited the hydro electric plant - no lifts or trials, straight down the service road, into the tunnel and down into the bowels of the earth (or so it seemed) in the coach. Fascinating! Back on the coach for a half hour drive up a mountain and down the other side on a dirt track, we saw the sound (and learnt later it's really a fjord although its called a sound....). We had a wonderful cruise, saw Dolphins, lots of furry seals, two lots of penguins and loads of of other birds..... The pictures tell the story......to Lake Wanaka tomorrow via Queenstown to have a try at Zip Wiring!
