We had an action packed day in the geothermal lake area around Rotorua. We took the Gondola ride up the hills and then, helmets on, took our first descent decent down the luge. It was fab, the "vehicles" are fool proof - 3 wheels and if you let go of the handlebars they stop. After the first relatively sedate descent we were transported back to the top in chairlifts, and then went down the "intermediate" run twice. What fun - photos to follow - we hope!! After visiting the main lake and a park with lots of bubbling pools and sulphur smoke, we took to "the duck"! A world war 2 amphibious craft that travels equally well on land or water. We visited 4 lakes and had great fun.
On our way back to the car Ivan spotted lots of old cars; on closer inspection, they were all very old vintage old Bentleys. They were from all over the world and on a 5 week tour of New Zealand - you never know what you are going to see!
Napier via lake Taupo and Huka falls tomorrow.
