We treated ourselves to a nice hotel in auckland as they had a special deal, and so we had a bottle of bubbles when we arrived & a fascinating dinner on our first night ( 8 different cuisines and you could try them all!). The ostrich and venison were lovely but the kangaroo was a bit "chewy" in comparison.
We had a walking day yesterday - Auckland is quite hilly but our walking tour started near our hotel at the top and so, in the main, it was downhill all the way, seeing a variety of sights from some older buildings, the suffragette square, wonderful trees and even some illuminated blow up sheep, sheep dog and cow, which were an art display in the park!
We took the ferry to another part of town, Devonport, and after a short trip on a wagon pulled by three Clydesdale horses, we walked up a rather large hill, but were rewarded with 360 degree views around the whole area - the pictures don't do the scenery justice.
On our way back to auckland were watched some of the huge Americas cup yachts returning from practise.......which one shall we buy?!?!?!?

Hi guys, Haven't been watching you for a couple of weeks. Just been reading about Auckland. We loved it. We went to Davenport, but I wouldn't climb up that hill. It was very hot and I was getting more and more ratty as we got higher, so we never did get to the top !!! The place, we thought, was like a seaside town in England in the 1950's. We loved Auckland and also walked and walked and then walked again up and down those hills. Love xx
