Where I stayed
Madrid is a big city so we are taking it slowly, we have 6 days here before returning to Barcelona. Gary has started coughing and not feeling well so I guess he is in for something. Today we visited the
Plaza Mayor, a huge outdoor square bordered by wonderful buildings and outdoor cafes, great for people watching. Also went to the increadible Mercardo san Miguel, an undercover market with fabulous tapas stalls and bars. You can wander around with a glass of wine or beer and enjoy a variety of food. At first we were not that taken with the tapas, thought it was overated, but this place is sensational, great atmosphere and food so fresh.
The Real Jardin Botanico was a treat with a display of amazing tulips, great time of the year as everything is in bloom.
The weather is overcast and cool, but no rain so have spent many hours in art galleries and museums. The Prado Museum took me about 4 hours, glad I went alone, Gary would have lasted about 30 mins. Funny how things work out!!!!!
11/04/2013: Gary really sick now, sleeping most of the time. I once again ventured into Madrid, walked for hours and had Tapas in the Market but not as much fun without the old boy. Decided as time to spare I would hit the hairdresser for a much needed color and treatment, has been 7 months since I have seen a hairdresser. The guy who looked after me was so nice, no one could speak a word of English but never the less he gave me the royal treatment and did not charge me the full amount and luckily my hair did not fall out!!!!!
12/04/2013: I left Gary in bed and headed off to Toledo, I had been there 35 yrs ago but my memory of it was vague. What a treasure, I think the jewel in the crown of Spain, an absolute must for anyone visiting this region. So ancient, so much history, loved it, only wish Gary could have been there with me.
We are heading back to Barcelona tomorrow for our final leg before flying to Frankfurt on Tuesday. I just hope Gary can make the trip.
