After a fabulous night with Robyn and Colin we returned to our car to find it had a flat tyre, Gary had run over the only piece of stray wood in LA. Poor man had to get down and get dirty in the car park in West Hollywood at midnight and change the tyre with a pathetic one in the trunk. Never the less we made it home ok.
Next morning we took it to Firestone in Hollywood, who said they could not fix, we needed a new tyre. I said to Gary, stuff that, lets take it back to Lynwood and see what they can do. There was a mexican run tyre place literally across the road from our motel. Gary wheeled the tyre over and came back 20 minutes later. The guy had patched the tyre for $7. It pays to live on the wrong side of town!!!!!
We then went into Hollywood for the Oscars, could not get near the place, we did see some of the behind the scenes people but not the big stars.
25/02/2013: Today we said a sad goodbye to our beloved Monica, she went back to the car yard and we hope she gets a good owner. Best car we have ever had. We decided to have a walk around Santa Monica until I looked in my backpack and realised that my money belt was missing, panic!!!! Its always with me, has our credit cards and my drivers liscence. We rushed back to the motel and turned the place upside down but not anywhere. Then it hit me I must have been pickpocketed in Hollywood the day before while taking photos of the Oscars. I rang the LAPD on Broadway and spoke to the lovely Officer Navaro who took my statement over the phone and advised me to call at the station and he would have the report ready for me. I cancelled the credit cards and had them replaced in 48 hours, fantastic service from mastercard. I also phoned the Metro lost and found on the off chance.
27/02/2013: Travelled on the Metro and buses around LA today, met the lovely Officer Narvaro, he knew us as soon as we walked in, probably as they do not get many caucasion people. They were very interested in our travels and I would say one of the few positive experiences Gary has had with the law. We headed onto the Metro lost and found and there was my money belt completely in tact with nothing missing. Apparently a sherrif found it near the subway, so it must have dropped out while getting my camera out. We could not believe our luck and the lady behind the counter was almost as excited as us. We both gave her a big handshake.
Despite the event we had a great day travelling the metro and meeting people. After 3 trips to LA Gary was finally made a member of a black gang. There was a very tough looking black guy drinking a huge can of beer sitting near us. He caught Gary listening to his conversation about his gang. At first I thought, oh no, this is not going to be good. Once he heard Garys accent he was his best friend. He said Gary could join because he was a brother and they did the greeting- palm slide followed by the fist. He did say Garrys effort was a little weak and
