Las Vegas - What a mad mad place this is. We arrived there late at night and Las Vegas is an amazing site when you land in the evening, never have I seen so much neon in all my life.

As we got there late at night we headed straight for the sack as even after 16 hours Liz was still suffering from her hangover and we wanted to see as much as possible the next day.

Duly refreshed we headed out for the ¨strip¨. Our hotel ¨The Stratosphere¨ was at one end and about 3.5 miles was the Mandalay Hotel at the other and inbetween some of the most incredibly outrageous buildings - these places are just so fucking huge! Within 200 yards we had been approached by a guy with offers for helicopter flights over the Hoover Dam and into the Grand Canyon also providing brunch on a ranch. It seemd far too good an offer to turn down. The only problem was that we were meant to be flying out the next day and would have to extend our stay by another day. A quick call to the airline and seats were available the next day, followed by a few calls to book our room for another night - you would not believe how difficult this was even though there were plenty of rooms available and we were sorted.

As we now had an extra night we did not hit the casinos or bars too much on this our first night as our flight was at 7 in the morning. I don´t think we would have stayed out late anyway as the whole place was a bit of a culture shock after the serenity of New Zealand and to start with the whole thing got us down a bit.

The next morning we took our flight to the Grand Canyon and I experienced my first ever horse ride at the ranch. As we have seen so many incredibly beautiful things on our journey it seemed incredible that we were not in awe of the Grand Canyon that much and the helicopter ride was relatively sedate compared to our rollercoaster one over the glacier.

Fortunately later that evening we found a wicked bar called Centrifuge in the middle of MGM Grand and instead of heading to a casino we spent the whole evening there. Can you believe it 3 days in Vegas and not one penny spent on gambling!!

To start with we hated this place but by the end were quite enjoying it. An experience well worth having but I know we´ll definitely not be going back.
