We took a ferry to the mainland and from there we went southwest to the town of Krabi. A few miles south of the town via a long-tail boat are some stunning beaches which were hit by the Tsunami, which we were informed were 90% back to normal and desparately needing the tourists back to help them recover. Apart from a broken boat on the beach and some of the beach-front resturants and shops fitting new glass in the windows you could hardly tell that anything had happened. Except that it was deadly quiet. Some of the Thais we met told us it was like being out of season even though this was their busiest time of year.
Still, the Thais were the same old, happy, smiling bunch of people you always get in Thailand, it just shows their strength of charactor. Even though quite a number of poeple had died in Krabi there were jokes being cracked already. Rich went jogging one evening (crazy fool) down the beach and a Thai chap shouted "Run, run Tsunami coming
Krabi is so beautiful, the cliffs and rock formations make it something special. The sea was grean and the beaches a pale golden colour. Gooooooooooorgeous! We stayed for 4 nights and had to leave because a) we were a bit beached-out, and b) our visa was due to expire on the 16th so needed to get to Malaysia to cross and re-cross the border to get another free 30 day Thai visa.
On the way back in to Thailand (45 minutes later)i had a call from my Dad telling me that one of our 5 cats had died - Frankie. He got ran over. So here's to Frankie! I dedicate this here entry to you Frankipuss. So after spending the rest of the day crying we went out for a meal in Had Yai which was where we stayed near the border. Hat Yai is a farely big city with not many tourists so we actually liked it as it was a total change from everywhere else we'd been in Thailand!
The next night we caught a 17 hour over-night train to Bangkok.
