Back on the coast for a few days before making my way out of Peru by mid next week and into Ecuador for 3 weeks of volunteering.

Spent the afternoon at the Huaca Del Luna which is the larget Pre Columbian structure in the Moche valley in the Peruvian desert. The Moche Pyramids (Sol and Luna)are he highlight of the valley.
The Moche people inhabited almost the whole of Northern Peru, the middle class of the village lived in the valley between the pyramids, whilst the more elite lived closer to the ruins from 300 AD to 600 AD. There were avenues that seperated the rich from the poor. The village is strategically located between the Moche River and the Pacific Ocean.
These temples were used for religious purposes, mostly for human sacrifice to the gods!
The Pyramids are tombs layered on top of each other like the Russian Matrioscka dolls.
We were able to tur the Temple of the Luna but the temple of the Sun is closed to the public and due to funding. The temple of the sun was flooded by diverting a river so that looters could rob the tombs.

HOT TIPS for travellers:
(1) Hospedaje Los Ficus is good value at 15 Soles for a private room with shared bath. Family run and nice and one block from the beach.
(2) The Huaca de Sol is closed. it was never opened! Due to funding problems.
(3) If travelling there from Huanchaco catch a micro that goes to Ovalo Graun for 1.20 soles, once thee catch another to Alton Moche, the micro will have Campina De Moche on the front and will cost 1 soles. The whole trip takes under an hour. To get back do the reverse.
