After a 20 hour bus ride to Teresina I met a guy who was going to Salvador to his Grandfathers funeral and wanted company in his car to keep awake........ Skeptical at first but i trusted my judgement of character....12 hours later I arrived in Salvador but not before a journey from hell. The WORST roads I have ever seen in my life! Some of the potholes you had to drive INTO..... seriously, you had to stop at the top of them and gently let your vehicle drop into them and come up the other side... amazing. By the time we got to Salvador his exhaust was almost falling off and the car was far noisier than when we left 12 hours earlier.
Cabucu and the beach -
The guy I drove form Salvador with convinced me to go to a small beach town north of Salvador called Cabucu. Brilliant to say the least! I was originally going for a day or 2 and stayed 5! These people had never seen an overseas tourist before! I met some locals who took me under their wing, by the time I left I knew the whole town. I danced in the streets with them and cooked and meals in their houses. Great people, great beach with great coconuts!
