Hooray!!  Much wining (Livvy discovered and consequently introduced us all to the delights of caliente vino), dining (even if to Livvy and Stephs disgust it was all rather vegetarian) and sleeping (in my beloved sister and friends case until at least midday) took place in are pre trip time in Cusco!

We were lucky enough to be in Cusco for the Inti Raemi celebrations (the winter solctice), which is a festival celebrated by the incas in which lamas are slaughtered to make the sun come back to earth!!  There were enthusiastic and very colourful parades in Plaza de Amas (the main square) in the days leading up to Inti Rami (24/06), with huge floats - including spitting llamas and a cock fight - and lots of traditional dances!  On the day of Inti Rami Kathryn and I were able to see the celebrations in full swing (Steph and Livvy were still asleep!!), with the Inca king and queen doing there bit - singing stuff generally - and being carried around by lots of young men and again lots of realy enthusisastic dancing!!  Great fun!

With all these cellebrations we were able to push the impending death treck to Macchu Pichu to the back of our minds........but soon enough the day came to meet our guide and we could ignore the fact that we were soon to be walking up mountains no longer!!  Too our relief our guide (Roger - said Roya) was lovely and he took us out to get warm coats and boots and whatever else we had neglected to bring!!  Then with a cheery farewell he said he looked forward to seeing us at 4.00 AM the following morning......QUE!!
