Hey peeps,
Well the wine tasting tour went down a treat!!
We were up early and out the door by 8.30am ready to catch the bus into the city and then walked through to the bus station on Wellington Street to be picked up.  After a quick stop off at Croissant Express we jumped on our tour bus and headed towards Swan Valley.
The sky was grey and it showered on and off for most of the day but thankfully we were under cover so didn't manage to get soaked!
We started off at a very posh vineyard where we tasted about 7 different wines, sampled port and ate cheese and biscuits.  It was slightly strange drinking at 9.30am and on pretty much an empty stomach so we all vowed to pace ourselves.
The sun came out for a bit so we headed into the gardens to see all the vineyards and took some pictures.
Then we were shown the room where a lot of people hire for wedding receptions, it had a marquee feel to it but with big wooden shelving with huge barrels filled with wine which was fermenting.
Then it was back on the bus and off to the next stop.. a few minutes up the road and we came to a smaller vineyard dubbed 'The Shed', literally because it was a shed in the midst of all the vines!  James, the guy behind the bar was from Norwich, so straight away took a liking to us and kept our glasses topped up!  Again we sampled about 10 different types of wine, plus a sparkling wine and munched our way through a cheese platter.  I treated myself to a bottle of Rosť and some garlic & chive Feta.. mmmmmm.
Then back on the bus to the next stop; Windy Creek.  It looked like an ordinary house from the front but out the back were acres of vineyards.  The gardens were beautiful but the girls behind the bar were rude.  I guess they labelled us as backpackers straight away and weren't interested in talking to us or showing us the wine as we weren't likely to buy any.. well the rudens got that wrong, most of the girls picked up their wine from this stop.. and Hannah got some home made jam!!
Then it was back on the bus and we headed to Chesters, where we sampled a few more wines and then (thank God) sat down for some lunch.  We were served a cheeseboard with spring rolls, samousas, ham, salami, melon and warm Turkish bread.  We ate every last bit on our board and then scoured the room for any left over's!!!
After lunch we headed to a brewery, where we all had a free glass of beer.. after all the wine, none of us really wanted it so we all gave ours to Carly!!
Then we headed off to the Chocolate factory, we all got straight in line for the free bowls of chocolate drops and filled our boots!!  Well.. we filled our hands!
We had a sneaky peak at how the chocolate was made and sampled a few truffles, had a mooch around the shop for a while, posed for some pictures with the memorabilia and then headed back on the bus and headed back home.
$85 well spent I say!  We all had a lovely day and really enjoyed pretending to be wine connoisseurs, we smelt the wine before tasting and then rolled the wine around our mouths and then leant forward and sucked some air in before either spitting it out or swallowing it!  I must admit though, I did learn a fair bit!  I don't know how I will cope going back to the trusty goon!!
Saturday night we all slobbed in front of the TV and watched a film.  I felt so guilty on Sunday morning for eating chocolate and drinking copious amounts of wine, so I got up, cleaned my room and headed to the gym!!  I pushed myself for 2 whole hours and then rewarded myself with a sauna and steam!
Not really much going on this week really, I'm pushing myself at the gym all week.. tonight I'm freestyling, Tuesday spin class, Wednesday body bump, Thursday body combat and then Friday body balance.  Plus 45 minute warm up before the classes!!  If I'm not slim soon I will scream!
Me, Hannah, Carly & Sharon are all off to an AFL match on Sunday 1st June, it's Freemantle Vs. Port Adelaide at the Subiaco oval.  Can't wait!!  I know I'm not a football fan.. and I have absolutely no idea what AFL is all about.. BUT I would like to go to a game!  The tickets were $80 for four, usually retailing at $52.50 each.. bargain!  I'm meeting the lady tonight after work to pick them up.
We live a few doors down from Mark Barnaba, who is the chairman for the West Coast Eagles AFL team!  Carly and I saw him the other day so we stopped to say hello, being friendly neighbours and all!  When we got home the girls shouted at us for not asking for tickets to a game!  As if!!
It's a bank holiday this weekend so off to the AFL match on Sunday and then straight after we are heading to Cottesloe to a place called The Cott for a Sunday session.. apparently it's the place to be on a bank holiday!
Katie and I have gone through what we need to save to do the west coast and Ayres Rock and everything.. $3500.00 I need to save.. I have 2 months to do it!  Eeeek!  My job ends on 29th June.. I hope I can get another one that pays as well, otherwise I am screwed!!  We've got to start advertising for new housemates as well soon as Sharon flies to New Zealand in 2 weeks and then Hannah and Carly are due to leave the beginning of July, which leaves Katie and I to cover all the rent.. which we really cant afford to do.  So we'll be advertising on gumtree, keep your fingers crossed that we get nice housemates.. the last thing I need is another housemate like Dermott the stinky stinkerson that invaded our lives in Brisbane! Haha!!
So that's all that's going on at the moment!!
Only 27 weeks until I am home!!!
Much love
