Up at 4.45am to catch the one and only bus out of Monteverde! You can get shuttle buses, but they are really expensive. We had a 2 hour journey to the main highway and then we had to catch another bus to Liberia. The whole journey took just over 4 hours and cost us about US $5 each, the shuttle bus would have cost US $42 each!
We struggled to get a cheap hotel in Liberia, I don't know if it is so expensive because it is so near the pacific coast, but the hotels were all quoting us US $60-80 for the night. We found a friendly taxi driver who took us to a place for US $18 a night. We have to share a bathroom, but the room is OK. We have a TV and a fan, so we should be fine.
I know I should not complain as we have been searching for the sun, but man it is hot here. We seem to go from one extreme to the other. We went to HSBC to take some money out and wanted to stay in there as it was the coolest place in town! We have spent all day dodging the sun, but tomorrow we are heading to the beach and I am going to lay out if it kills me!!!!
Liberia is not that interesting, it is a small town on the main highway, pleasant, but not much to do. Most people head to the coast, but we only have 2 nights left, so we wanted to stay near the main bus terminal.
