Today we went to the Parque del Cafe. We weren´t sure what to expect, but we ended up having a really good day. The park is about 15 minutes drive from where we are staying and Zulma and Fransisco kindly offered to drop us off at 10am. The park is known as the Disney Land of the Cafe region which we are staying in. I wouldn´t really compare it to Disney world, more like Wickstead Park, but we had a great day anyway!
At the beginning of the park is the story of cafe, where you can see the coffee plants and they have people to show and tell you how the coffee is grown and what happens to it after it is picked. Our Spanish is improving because we understood more or less everything that the people were telling us and that is a far cry from when we went out for the day with Ellie and Kev in Madrid and we had a tour in Spanish and understood nothing!!!!
We had a few coffees, of course and also went on the roller coaster and log flume ( I got soaked ) and we went to see the Show del Cafe - lots of dancing! It was raining all morning, but the sun came out in the afternoon and it was great. We got picked up at 5.30pm and then we were taken on a tour of the city of Armenia. We had been told by the lady we are staying with in an email that it was 30,000pesos for the night, but when we went to pay today she told us that it was 30,000 each per night! This has thrown our budget a bit and also been a bit of a sour note really. We only came here to see them and we have travelled through Columbia, rather than heading straight to Cartagena, which was our original plan, only to find out that we can´t afford what they are charging!!!! It is about 18 pounds UK, which may not sound like a lot, but it is double what we paid in Argentina and when we met them in Argentina they told us it was the same price.
It has been nice to see Columbia and experience a bit of the culture, but I would rather have been on the beach in Cartegena experiencing it than in a city in the middle of the country!!!! You live and learn!!!! We head to Bogota tomorrow on another bus and then the next day we fly out to Costa Rica - we saw the news today and there was a massive rain cloud over Costa Rica - will I ever see the sun again????? My stomach has improved after a dose of antibiotics, but I still have terrible stomach cramps so have not been able to eat much, at least it will all help to get me back into that bikini!!!
