Day before the Inca Trail
Entry 65 of 115 | show all | print this entry |
Well we have had a wonderful time in Cusco. The family I was staying with was so nice that we have decided to stay there longer. We are also coming back to stay with them for our last night in Cuzco. We have done loads of things in and around Cuzco. We went horse riding around the Inca ruins that are very near Cuzco and on Monday we did a tour through the Sacred Valley, which was breathtaking. Today we went to Tipon to see more Inca ruins. It was out in the countryside and we went on a local bus to get there, which was an experience! We went and had a good look around the ruins and then we went to a Cuyeria so that Epi could try his first Cuy (Guinea pig). It smelt disgusting and I am happy to say that Epi did not enjoy it, but I am not happy that the poor little thing had to die for Epi to find out he did not like Cuy!!!!! I guess you have to try these things???? Not me!!!! So tomorrow we are off on the Inca Trail, finally. Feels like we have been building up to this for a long time now. I just hope that we both make it in one piece. We will be walking for 4 days, on the 4th day (my birthday!!!) we will arrive at Machu Pichu, which should be fantastic. Then we are spending one night in Agua Calientes, in the hot springs, before getting the glass topped train back down to the Scared Valley on the 31st March, then a 2 hour bus ride back to Cuzco. After that we fly to Lima and straight up to Piura in the North of Peru. So I don`t expect I am going to get much chance to let you know how it went, but as soon as I get the chance I will!!! In Piura we are going to stay with the family of someone we met in Cuzco, so we are getting the full Peruvian experience in Peru!!!
Where I stayed:
Marina`s house!

Guinea Pig!!!!! (reply) Apr 20, 2008 13:34 EST by wendyd
Ignore my previous comment. I now know what Cuy is. I used to have a Guinea Pig called Jubilee and it wouldn't have appreciated being eaten by Epi!
