We had a nice time in Mendoza, the family we stayed with were great and the host (Marta) gave us great tips on where to go and even sorted trips out for us. We spent one day walking around Parque San Martin, which was a lot bigger than we had realised. We were searching for an outdoor pool, but the only one we could find was in a club and was $30 for the day, which is a lot in Argentina.
That night we were introduced to another couple staying at our hospedaje, they are from Columbia and it turns out they own a hosepdaje in Columbia and they showed us pictures and told us all about their home. We were a bit scared about Columbia as you hear bad stories about the Cartel and drugs etc, but this couple have changed our minds and we are hoping to go and stay with them sometime in April. They have a coffee plantation nearby that you can go and visit and they have said they will show us the area. Their place looks great too!
The next day we went on a wine tour, organised my Marta. It was really good value and we got picked up from the house and dropped back off about 4 hours and a few glasses of wine later! The tours were really interesting and another good test of our Spanish as the first one was in Spanish. We had out own tour guide on the second tour, which was perfect.
I had to buy a couple of bottles of course, which we shared with our host and the Columbian couple that night. It is very tiring listening and trying to talk Spanish all night, and Epi did really well with his Spanish.
On our final day we went on an day trip to Cachueta. It is back into the mountains, about 1 hour from Mendoza. We got out there for 11am and spent the whole day bathing in the natural hot springs and lazing by the pool. It was a great place and we were really glad we went there. Some of the springs are really hot, it is the first bath we have had in weeks, my feet are finally clean again!!!!
We then went back to the house as Marta had looked after our bags and said we could have a shower. They had a power cut which was a bit of a nightmare are there were no fans, no lights, nada! But at least we got a cool shower and said very fond farwells to the family and Tota, they all come outside to wave us off, which was really nice.
Then to the bus station to wait for our bus. Bus was due at 10pm, but it didn't arrive! As I was trying to find out what was going on I had a tap on my shoulder and it was Tom and James!! It was great to see them and James is looking much better. They too were heading to Cordoba, but they were on the 10.30pm bus, which just happens to be the more expensive one with the bigger posher seats. As our bus was late we got to watch them set off in their posh bus, on the front seats too!!! We are hoping to meet up with them for a drink in Cordoba and exchange stories.
