Happy New Year - Feliz Aņo Neuvo
I am sat in an internet cafe updating my blog as Epi has had to go back to bed to nurse his hangover! He only got up at 1.30pm and managed to stay upright for about an hour!!!
Needless to say we had a great night. Valparaiso is famous in Chile for its fireworks and parties at Aņo Neuvo and we werenīt disappointed, it was well worth the sleepless nights at Yo Yo hostel.
We had already decided where we were going to view the fireworks for the evening, to make sure we had a good spot. We had decided to go to a place called Bellavista, it was a bit further away than some of the other spots we had seen, but we hoped that we would get a good view and we weren't disappointed
As the night went on it got busier and busier in our little quiet spot and by 11.30pm it was packed, but we still had a great view and we were really lucky as we were surrounded by Chilean people that were so friendly. Some spoke in English to us, others spoke in Spanish, but they were all so kind, saving us the best spots to be able to see and asking us about Chile and what we thought of it and also letting us use their toilet!!
The fireworks were set off from 3 different places in the harbor and it was an amazing sight. They lasted for over 25 minutes and it really was like World War III, they were huge and very impressive.
We had sat and drunk our 2 remaining bottles of Chilean wine, care of Max and Harry and we should have left it at that - but oh no. We headed back down the hills to the town and straight into the first bar we saw. Hence New Years Day was a bit of a wash out, but worth it!

Epi and I at the spot we picked for the fireworks
. We arrived quite early, about 9.30pm as we had been warned that it gets busy everywhere around the hills. But we were surprised to see very few people there and the people that were around were local families, which we took as a good sign.
