We have had a wonderful time here. The hostel is great and there is virtually no one else here. We have a massive room, with our own bathroom again. We have a view of the sea from the balcony outside our room where we watched the sun setting on the first night, with a glass of Chilean red wine (80p per bottle). Everyone told us Chile was expensive, but we seem to have got really lucky because we had been quoted a price for the room with en suite and told the owner we would go for the shared bathroom as it was too expensive - but he let us have the en suite at the same price. We are paying $17,000 Chilean, sounds a lot I know, but actually is about seventeen pounds a night and cos we have such a great kitchen we have been able to cook some great meals and save money that way.
Ancud is a small fishing port on the island of Chiloe. Despite being small it has a real hustle and bustle about it and once again the people are so friendly
Just outside our room we have a group of 4 tiny kittens and their mum, who live with a small family. They are really cute and it is good fun watching them playing and fighting and falling off things!
One thing that struck me about our first stop in Chile is that the variety and abundance of fruit and vegetables is amazing, so much more so than Argentina. And the other thing is that fish is really big here, unlike Argentina, which is great for me. We went out for a menu al dia the other day, it was 2,000 each for a 2 course meal and the meal was huge! I had this sea food soup thing to start, Mum you would have been sick at the sight of it! It tasted ok, cant say it was great and there were things in there that I had never seen before, some didn't look too appetising - like some things you would see on "I'm a celebrity get me out of here!". I felt a bit rude not eating it all, but didn't want to take the chance with some of it! The main course was amazing though. Fresh fish in a really light batter and Epi had a meat feast as normal!
We could have gone to see more penguins on this stop and as we had lost the previous photos we did consider it, but we found out that you only see them from the boat. We were so lucky to have been to the largest colony in the south and to have walked among them, we decided it wouldn´t be the same, so we decided not to go. We just chilled instead and walked around the town.

The beach at Ancud
. We are finding that our understanding of Spanish is getting better, but the talking bit is still a little hard. The weather is absolutely fantastic, really sunny, but a nice cool sea breeze. We went for a walk along the coast and spotted a group of Young kids diving off a cliff side, so we sat and watched, maybe in the hope of rekindling our youth! It didn't work, but it was good fun watching anyway.Just outside our room we have a group of 4 tiny kittens and their mum, who live with a small family.
