Bariloche to Ancud, Chile - across the Andes

The journey from Bariloche across the Andes to Chile was probably one of the most amazing bus journeys I have ever done. I really like beaches and the sea, but going up through the Lake District and through the Andes was just breathtaking for me. Although it did remind me of the time that Dad was driving John, Peter and myself down through the Alps and the brakes went, on the Dolomite Sprint we had (think that was the name of the car). Scary!!
Anyway we started off driving through more of the lake district and then up into the snow capped Andes. It was a six hour bus journey to Puerto Montt, but from there we had no idea how we were going to get to Ancud, which is on the island of Chiloe. We were late getting into Puerto Montt, but fortunately there was a bus pretty much straight out to Ancud. Our first impression of Chile is that it is a bit more hectic than Argentina, but they have proper roads everywhere and even more comfortable buses - heaven!
So we took the 2 hour bus to Ancud and had to get a ferry long the way onto the island. Then when we got there we found our hostel and it is great!!! More thumbnails ...

Having a relaxing Sunday evening - thought I would have a quick look through your travel blog only to see an entry which starts 'Jo is pretty large' - which on further investigation was put there by my good friend Rachel! I am not sure I want my body shape discussed in cyberspace!

Hi again
Jo is pretty large - due end of Feb when I'll be at Center Parcs - that time of year again!! Off to Cape Town next Monday so can't wait for some sun, sea, sand and wine! Hopefully catch up with Jo this week, before I go and then 4 weeks later when I return. Went to Vic's on NYE for dinner, games and wine - about 10 of us in the end - great night!
