Our flight to HCMC finally boarded at 11.00am. Vietnam Airlines provided us with a lovely box of food, which appears customary on internal Asian flights. We landed at about 1.00pm and proceeded to the Grand Dragon Hotel in Backpacker headquarters.
Next, we booked our onward trip to Dalat (a city in the central highlands of Vietnam). We had some lunch and then walked around the streets for a while. This is obviously where most westerners spend their time in HCMC as there are hundreds of souvenier shops. We finally saw the traditional "souvenier" t-shirts (red with yellow star as per the flag or "same same"). With a few hours spent lounging around in our room and enjoying yet another great view of HCMC (all for US$25 per night), it was time to go searching for sundowner drinks and dinner.
We found a couple of pubs to have a beer at, each with its fair share of Aussies and Europeans. For dinner, we tried the Bobby Brewers Cafe, which also happened to be a movie house. We enjoyed our dinner and then watched "American Gangster" in their version of gold class cinema seats. A relaxing way to spend the evening...bed at about 11pm.
