Today, we awoke at 6.30am to have breakfast and be at the airport at 8am. When we arrived at the airport, we went to the check-in desk and were told that the first flight to Siem Reap (at 9.30am) was fully booked so we went on stand bye. We were told to come back at 9.10am to check if any seats were free. While awaiting the stand by call, we found the actual booking office for "Siem Reap Airlines". Once again we were informed that the 9.30am flight was fully booked so booked a ticket for the 12.30pm flight (to make sure we weren't delayed further). At 9.10am, we were called to the check-in desk and told that there were seats on the 9.30am flight after all! So, we paid our departure tax, ran up the escalator and......made it to Siem Reap by about 10.30am.
Siem Reap is the closest town to Angor Wat and other temples ( a series of ruins from various religions, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries). We had plenty of time to book our onward trip to HCMC and enjoy lunch at a local Mexican restaurant (which served nice frozen margaritas). At about 2pm, we hired a tuk-tuk and off we went to the temples. 3 hours later, after much walking and marvelling (and a ride in a hot air balloon and conversations with monkeys) we're back in Siem Reap. We've enjoy another Khmer dinner, with some cocktails, before catching up on the blog and going to bed!
