Today we've had lots of practice at crossing the Ho Chi Minh City streets where traffic appears to move without lights or signals at a horrendous pace. There was one slight knock of a car and a motorbike, but that's it. You walk up to an intersection with 3 sections of road to cross, no signals and banks of bikes, cars and buses and think how on earth am I going to get across that, let alone in one piece......! We did!
We've seen the major sights of HCMC - the Reunification Palace (the Palace that was stormed to signify the end of the Vietnam War), the War Remants Museum (shows the attrocities of the Vietnam War - fairly represented with a mixture of pro and anti American sentiment), the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Post Office (each a couple of hundred years old). In amongst the sightseeing we found the Barbecue Garden where we enjoyed a 3 course meal with beer for $8 for both of us. This evening, we found another set-menu restaurant where we had 4 courses with beer for $20 for both of us. We topped the evening off with a cruise down the Saigon River in an open sided ferry, lit up like a fish....
Tomorrow we go to explore the Meekong Delta before popping off to Cambodia for a few days....
