We stopped at Opononi, we went for a walk to the I SITE, and read about Opo the Dolphin, who was a Dolphin that in the 50's strayed into the bay/beach here, and played with the children, and used to meet the fishermen in their boats, she was a real celebrity!!! She was worlwide known and the tourism in this small beachside town was spilling at the seams, we read the news paper clippings from papers in London and America reporting about Opo, until one sad day, a very jealous man, Shot Opo! and killed her, and so Opo was buried in Omarere, which is sort of the same town as opononi, so we walked past where she was buried, and on the night we were talking to a Maori guy, really lovely man, who said in the 50's his dad piled them all in the car to come and see Opo, and it was on the day that he was shot!! and they heard the news whilst halfway to see him, he was gutted as a small child!! how sad!!, but Opo had a massive funeral, and is still remembered today!! We then went for a long walk to a peak where we sat and looked out over the views!! And Baz cooked me a lovely tea for valentines day!!!
