We woke late at 7.30am, (Hotel failed with the alarm call!!) so up and out and with our driver for 8am, so we left Mysore for a long drive north, it ended up being a 12 hour drive with no food stops or loo breaks!!! but in fairness to the driver there was nowhere he could stop!!! But he was a good driver and the the drive was one of the best experiences we have had so far, we have seen sights of India we never dreamt we would. The landscape is so diverse along with the villages. We saw cows pulling wooden carts loaded with friut veg plants and other produce, we saw old indian women hearding cows and sheep and goats along the roads, we saw monkeys, wild boar, pigs, goats, cows, sheep, stray dogs and cats all along our journey, with the driver having to dodge them. We passed scenery that you would be forgiven for thinking you were back in England, we passed views that reminded me of Bali, we saw paddi fields, we saw big green lushus forests, we saw 1000ft high water falls, we think they were the Jog Falls, we saw some amazing lakes, lined with palm trees, we drove up high winding roads, it was an amazing journey. We saw dusty poverish villages, we saw bright busy working villages, we saw amazing community spirit, we also saw villages just about surviving. We saw children pumping water from the ground, women carrying massive weights of produce on their heads, men hearding animals and working the land, women in the paddi fields. It was a brilliant journey.
Half way along our car decided to break down, and we recognised it was a dead battery, so we got out and pushed, to jump start the car, with alot of looks from the locals, especially one young boy who was facinated with me and baz and just starred at us, while helping us push, then more men came and helped, so me and the young boy just stood starring and smiling at each other, both equally facinated in each other, and the men got the car started and off we went again.
We arrived in Goa after 11 hours, but then had to drive another hour to the first resort, we arrived in, Colva beach, and it is not a nice place, so we've had breakfast and now gonna search the web and move on this afternoon, hopefully we're gonna beach hop our way up through Goa for the next 7 days, so will keep you updated.
Just to update you on the situation with the buses here in India, when in Mysore we were watching the news, when it reported that friday night, the night we had the worst bus journey ever, a bus went over the cliff, it was overpacked with passengers and it had been driver error, and we think it was the cliffs and windy road where we decided to close our eyes. Oh well, we had been lucky to arrive in Mysore in one piece!!!!
