Zipolite has an international reputation for free love, hallucinogenic plant life and naked hippies who forgot to leave in the 60s wandering about its pristine shores. Can't work out what we did wrong then, as we spent a whole 3 days there and apart from the odd unclothed German, experienced a distinct lack of mushroom fuelled love parade. Maybe because it was still low season, but there were definitely more middle-aged European couples than shrivelled Mick Jagger wannabes.
This beach is also famous for hatching turtles and some of the most hardcore surfing waves in the country. Sadly we saw the two combined in the form of hundreds of dead baby turtles sprinkled along the seafront. They were the victims of the vicious undertow that spat them back out of the sea as soon as they managed to get in, despite the best efforts of a slightly batty French woman who crouched behind them all day, gently prodding them on with sticks.
Good food and beautiful sunsets, wish I could stay here longer but tomorrow it's back to carville and training my tequila belly for saturday. Ding dong, it's wedding time!
