Megeve is a ski resort and everything shuts down when the snow goes, so there was not much in shopping to be done. It was also very expensive! Grant and I walked into the village for a drink one afternoon and had 3 beers each, not even big beers and we paid $48 Euro! $16 NZ dollars per beer each, you would think there must have been gold in them...needless to say we did not venture out again from the property for drinks and just took advantage to the free stuff at the house!
Apart from one afternoon of sunshine, the weather in the mountains was foggy and damp
Then we undertook a massive 500k journey in the camper traveling at about 85km per hour down to the beach. We left Megeve and the temperature was 9 degrees, but eight hours later and 500km south the weather had changed to a beautiful 27 degrees...We headed for Le Faviere at Bormes-les-Mimosas, which is about 30km East of Toulon and 50km West of St Tropez. Our campsite has direct access to the beach and we are just 10 steps away from that access. I think the lady at reception really liked the fact we were from NZ and gave us an amazing spot.
The French national jet boating championships were on while we were here right outside our campsite. Grant and I pulled our chairs onto the roof of the camper and had superb views of the racing until the wind and rain came and chased us back to safer grounds.
We had Cam's birthday while we were here but unfortunately we also fell victims to the Mistral winds from Africa, which turned the weather to custard and nearly blew everything and everyone off the coast! So Cam's birthday presents of a lilo, sunglasses and beach ball remain untouched and waiting for the sun to shine again.
We have amazing neighbors from Denmark (who live in Sweden, see I listen Flemming!) who we really enjoyed getting to know
