The first thing we noticed about Germany was the cars flying past us at around 180km! Even the small ones at that speed past blow our little camper around. The German countryside is beautiful. It is very lush and green.

We stayed just out of Bremen then headed to Hamburg (which by all accounts was a very boring city). Even the bars which it is meant to be famous for were a bit boring. Maybe we are just missing Chico's and Old Man Rock a bit, especially now Money or the Box has started and staff party is just around the corner.

Two of the great things of having your own camper are 1. You can make your lunch while stuck in a massive traffic jam and the kids can go to the toilet. We were stuck in a traffic jam for over an hour and managed to have our lunch and fold up the laundry and get all of the kids homework done just in that time. Number 2. Great luxury of having a camper is changing your mind all the time on where you are going to go...we were not going to go to Berlin but changed our route and we headed to Berlin. We stayed for three nights at an amazing campsite in Potsdam about 30 minutes out of Berlin. Our site was right on the lake and Cam and I managed to see some amazing sunrises (only ones awake at 6am).

Berlin was a very clean cool city. We took the train in and did the 9km walking tour. We started at Potsdamer Platz where Cam got her first view of the wall. Well I reckon she would have walked the entire 160km wall route if she could have, she was so into it! We also went to the Holocaust memorial which was amazing and up the Reichstag into the beautiful Dome which overlooked the city. We met an awesome family from Holland while waiting the hour and a half to get up. The father immigrated to NZ with his family at the age of 2 and lived in Dunedin for 18 years. He used to ski at Coronet Peak every winter with family! They were great and his English accent was amazing with the Holland part in it. While we waited the hour and a half spud was off trying to find hay fever pills and just got back in time for the trip to the top of the Reichstag.

We then headed off to checkpoint Charlie and Cam would have spent 100 Euro on a piece of the wall there! After a full day in Berlin we headed back out to the campsite for more beers with the staff. We really enjoyed our time in Potsdam, the kids had plenty of other kids to play with (they taught them beach volleyball with the tellytubby ball we bought them from the campsite...soooo not cool) and the facilities were great.

Dresden was just as everyone described very pretty. The church which was nearly completely destroyed in the war and the exact replica put back together for the 800 anniversary of the town blew us away. The inside was like a dolls house with beautiful paintings all over it in pastel yellows, pinks and blues.

We then headed out to the country and stayed 5km from the Czech boarder in the mountains where we all slept like logs (it's something about that mountain air!).
