We caught up with Dennis and his girlfriend Felecia in Breda in the Netherlands. They took us to a totally Dutch restaurant for Dinner where we had heaps of mashed potatoes with our meals...yum! Breda is a lovely city with great boutique shops and heaps of pubs and cafes.
We drove up to Kinderdyke where we learnt all about windmills and dykes and the likes...very interesting and beautiful too.
Lucky for us the Dutch were celebrating the Dutch Queen's birthday while we were there. Dennis convinced us to come to his town of Tilburg and celebrate the day with them drinking and having a street party...well why not! So we headed to Tilburg after a couple of days in Breda and met Dennis and his great friends for a day of drinking and orange wearing. Apparently orange is for royalty over here so we dug out all our orange gears (yes surprisingly we had some!) and partied until Lisa the responsible one suggested it was getting a bit dark and we have no lights on our bikes so best we hit the road for our 6km ride back to our campsite. As it so happened it was just when the massive storm that was meant to pass through later that night we are biking through thunder and lightening and being hit by massive hail stones! It just all adds to the adventure doesn't it?
We then headed to Lisse to check out the tulips, Spud was more blown away by the amount of people wanting to check out tulips. It took us about an hour in traffic to get the last 5km's, where there was just as many people there already and twice as many people in traffic still trying to get there! The tulips were amazing though. Then off to Amsterdam!
Amsterdam was a filthy, rubbish ridden city...probably did not help that we arrived the day after Queens's birthday. The carnival was there again...and so were thousands of tourists all stoned off there heads. We spent a couple of days walking around the city, checking out the various sights (and there are a lot of them but not really for little girl's eyes). We did not actually go to a "Coffee shop" as such, but purchased some chocolate and bikkies to try...will update you on that one when we finally try them although I hope the girls don't get to them first!
We then cruised up through Edam and over the 40km long Afsluitdijk. We have enjoyed our stay in the Netherlands and are now heading for Germany.
