I love Paris! WOW...we are blown away by this beautiful, relaxed, amazing city! I am sure that it helps staying in a luxury apartment just 100 steps from the Notre Dame and with a view out to the Eiffel Tower! The Apartment is right on the river, 3 stories up and we have all the alcohol, food and space we need.
After being in our wonderful camper for two weeks and with average weather our decision to come back to Paris was a fantastic one. The weather we had for our 4 days was beautiful spring weather, rain at night then mild pleasant days. It reached 19 degrees one day so perfect weather guessed it, drinking wine (I did have a white one afternoon and lived to tell the tale!) This also means the blossoms are out; the city looks beautiful, but not so good for old Spud though. Hay fever has hit him hard here and he has a handkerchief constantly to his nose!
The coffee is finally great here and sitting at the Cafes, all facing out like you are at the movies, is something of a pass time. Grant and I enjoyed most afternoons sitting out towards the street, people watching, and you guessed it again, drinking wine. The girls were just happy hanging out at the apartment catching up on Home and Away (Jordan) and DVD's (Cameron).
The kids and Spud went to the top of the Eiffel Tower, Spud said it is probably the first time he has ever been terrified of heights in his life. They squeeze so many people into the elevators and on that top floor he doesn't know how it doesn't cave in! I made it to the first elevated floor (by the stairs) and only just...I had a panic attack with about 3 levels to go...I couldn't go up and I couldn't go down...thankfully an old man of about 80 stopped to see if I was okay. He then proceeded to walk me up the next 3 flights of stairs to the first level! I headed straight to the bar for 2 large Heinekens trying to work out how the hell I was going to get back down! It then took me nearly 20 mins to get down...I was a mess. I think the height thing for me has got worse as I was nearly physically sick when I had the panic attack and I froze. Not a good move when over 1000 people an hour are trying to make there way up and down those stairs.
Cameron is besotted by the Mona Lisa and Jordan wants a Beret. Unfortunately when she tried one on she looked like a mushroom with her little round cheeks, so Cam is now having a field day with that one.
I tried shopping in Paris but all the streets I ended up in held Gucci, Channel, Valentino and the likes...the outfits were amazing but come on, where would I wear a cream lace dress with ostrich feathers. I know Chico's is a classy joint but that may be taking it a bit far!
The Louvre was amazing but we didn't do it justice...we only had 3 hours the morning of leaving the apartment to see it as it closed on Tuesday's...the whole day we had put aside to do it...unfortunately the lady from our apartment who is like our concierge told us it closed Mondays not Tuesdays, but Cam did get to see her beloved Mona Lisa. She could not believe how small it was compared to the other Art on the walls. They also have an amazing Egyptian display the girls really loved.
Paris has been unreal, I really loved it and can not wait to come back one day...everyone is saying to us if you loved Paris wait until you get to Italy!!! So we are back on the road again heading north to Belgium, Holland and Germany! I get the faint feeling we are about to at least double the beer drinking quantities!
