I´ve been in Floranopolis for almost a week now. We´ve been renting a room from a pilates teaching surfing hippy. We´ve got an outside kitchen too which is great cos we can save money by cooking our own food. Brazil´s been a lot more expensive than we thought it would be. Our place has a beautiful garden with a curious turtle, timid rabbit and loveable labrador. Oh yeh, and there´s a horse too. It´s about 20 minutes walk from Mozambique beach, a huge stretch of beach. I think it´s 4 miles long. We decided to walk along the stretch of beach and picked up a 19 year old Brazilian along the way. He didn´t speak any English so we just had our Portuguese phrasebook to communicate with. The beach was completely secluded until we reached Barra da Lagoa. There were lots of people kite-surfing. We´ve hired a moped now which helps with getting around over here.
Yesterday we went scuba diving. The guys we went with were so nice. Brazilians are such a lovely bunch of people. One guy Gabriel who´s studying for his Divemaster took such great care of us. It felt like royalty diving. There´s no coral here but there´s a lot of fish and turtles. The current was quite strong and sometimes we´d swim into a really cold current. We really enjoyed the diving as it was just us and lots of divers.
We were hoping to have a surfing lesson this morning at Mole beach but the teacher said that the waves are too dangerous today. Instead we´re going to have a class at 2pm at Barra da Lagoa. The weather´s beautiful today. Hot and sunny!
Tomorrow were taking the bus to Iguazu falls before crossing over the Argentinian border. Not looking forward to the 16 hour bus journey.
