After Lombok we flew to Java and our first stop was Surabaya. Let's just say it was probably our first and last visit there.... It was way too busy and it didn't look like they have too many tourists out that way?? We couldn't wait to leave but it was also a good stop over on our way to Mt Bromo. We have heard that Jakarta is very similar to Surabaya, but bigger, so we decided against visiting Indo's crazy capital city.
We finally made it to Mt Bromo which is one of the 'must sees' in Indonesia! We stayed at a hotel on top of the volcano and had to get up at 3:30am to go and watch the sunrise. Pity the weather wasn't too good coz all we could see was cloud and fog. It supposed to be the most amazing view... So they say. We also got to walk to see the middle of Mt Bromo which is still active, and we could see the hole smoking and bubbling away. If ya know what sulphur smells like.... Yummy!
We then made our way to Yogyakarta with some random Javanese dude in his minivan. During the 9 hour trip we were very tempted to get out after plenty of swerving and heavy breaking. They drive crazy in Indo! It was all worth the wait coz Yogyakarta was a pretty cool place. It's supposed to be just behind Bali in the top Indonesian tourist spots. While we were there we visited Borobudur Temple which is the biggest Buddhist temple in the world, and that was incredible. It's really worth visiting Java to just to see..
