Where I stayed
Sairee Beach Resort

After parting for 2-3 days, Debbie and I met back up in Kao Tao.  We are staying in Sairee Beach, the main touristy area of the island.  It's quite fascinating - the beach is lined with open air restaurants/bars all with cushions and little tables laid out in the sand for you to relax on - as the water gently laps the beach 5 feet in front of you.  (They must have great confidence in the tide levels).

Today we teamed up with 2 German girls that we met previously on the bus from Krabi - Surat Thani and bumped into here on Koh Tao - and hired a longboat to Koh Nang Yuan, a tiny island off of Kao Tao.  What an amazing snorkeling experience.

Many people have raved about the snorkeling on Koh Pha Nang and Koh Tao but to be honest I haven't been that impressed (possibly because we have been spoiled with the snorkelling in Fiji and Rarotonga).  Well, this was pretty impressive!

This island is actually two small island-ettes, joined by a skinny stretch of sand, on which is a row of chairs for you to sit in.  We spent hours snorkelling - there were so many fish, and unfortunately, very friendly fish!  (I say unfortunately as they come up so close and I don't like that!  I prefer that they keep a respectable distance!  One was so close it bumped into my mask!)

We liked this place so much that we decided we will go back there tomorrow for the next 2 nights and stay in their overpriced bungalows that are spread out on the hills of both islands.  Overpriced, yes - but hey, it's a fantastic way to spend our last 2 nights before heading back to Samui for the final night before we fly home.  So think of us for the next two days as we do little else besides spy on the fish, bask in the sunshine, and maybe find time to read a book!  I have to say, I think our tans are getting pretty impressive!
