We left our beloved Railey Beach for another island that we had high hopes for. It took a couple of hours by minivan (and 2 car ferries). We arrived at our little bungalows and went out to the beach.
What a disappointment!! The beach could have been lovely - a long sweeping bay that stretched for 2-3 kms. However, the beach was covered with rubbish, including a lot of broken glass. It just wasn't worth attempting a swim and risking cutting our foot (and thereby ruining a holiday!)
We just kind of wandered around, and for dinner, hired a tuk tuk to take us into Saladan (the main town, about 5 mins away), but again were a bit disappointed. We knew this was the low season and that many places shut down, but this town was dead!! We did find a nice place to eat and enjoyed a yummu curry, but we decided we would leave the next day and head over to the East Coast to start our time on the east coast islands.
So.. Koh Lanta was a bit disappointing. Perhaps in high season it might have been a bit more interesting, but the glass on the beach really put us off. (This was on Klong Dao, which was supposed to be one of the nicer beaches, we thought).
