Time to leave Siem Reap and move on to Phnom Penh.  We had originally thought we would do it the hard way, and take a boat up the Tonle Sap river (where we did our floating village tour) and then across the lake.  We had come across some pictures of what these boats were like, and were beginning to have some doubt about the sensibility of this.

However, as the river has apparently dried up too much (or because it is the tourist low season - we're unclear exactly why) - the boats weren't running, so our only option was a bus.  We made some inquiries and the standard bus was $7 and the VIP bus was $10.  We walked down the road a bit further and found the VIP bus for $8.  So really - I know this isn't quite the backpacking travel we were anticipating, but why sacrifice comfort for $1??  So VIP treatment it was!!

The bus ride was about 5 hour and provided a fascinating insight into life in the countryside.  We had air-con, very plush comfortable seats, and a free bottle of water.  Who could complain!

We arrived into Phnom Penh - and were blown away!  This is one crazy, hectic city!  There are many old delapitated buildings but also alot of new constructions going on.

(OK - Debbie is pulling me away again - time to head back to the hotel for some shut-eye.  Stay tuned for our experiences in the Killing Fields and the Tuol Sleng prison.)
