It was time to leave the big smoke and head out to our first island.  We decided to give Koh Samet a miss and make our way straight through to Koh Chang, which is supposed to be less touristy.  It's also supposed to be the new up and coming resort location, since Phuket had fallen out of favour after the Tsunami.

We ended up a nice air conditioned coach from Bangkok to Trat - we haven't exactly been roughing it yet, but heck, the air-con bus was so cheap for a 5 hour trip, why suffer if we don't have to!

Halfway into the journey the skies opened up and it absolutely hosed down.  No problem, we thought as we will be dropped off at the bus station from where we will get a tax to the ferry.  How bad can it be?  Well the bus station was a shop - pretty much in the middle of no where Arriving at Koh Chang
Arriving at Koh Chang
.  The driver stood over us with umbrellas as we dragged our heavy packs out from the cargo hold.  I had rain puring off the umbrella and down on to my back.  We're getting absolutely soaked in the 60 seconds it took to get our bags into the shop. We watched as the nice comfortable bus drove away... and we had no idea where to go next!   Fortunately we saw the funny side in all of this and sat there in  hysterics at our predicament.

We pulled it together and organised a room for the night, and a ride to the ferry.  By the time we arrived on Koh Chang, the skies had cleared up so all ended ok.

We're staying at White Sands Beach in a fairly basic hotel.  This morning we went for a wander up the beach to check out other places to stay but decided to stay where we are for another night.

The first couple of days in Bkk, we were pleasantly surprised at the temperatures.  Hot, but not unbearable so.  This morning, walking along the beach at 9.30 we thought we were going to die it was so hot!!  We have so far had a very quiet laid back day at the beach.  We go for a swim every 30 mins to cool off.  Well, we try to.  The water is so warm that you have no concept of where the water starts and the air stops as you walk in.  This has got to be the warmest water I have ever been in!  It certainly isn't refreshing!    On the way back to our room, we 'crashed' the swimming pool at a resort on the beach!  We felt like naughty school kids!  But we wanted to rinse the salt water off... and we are having problems with the water in our room. Debbie washed some undies in the basin this morning and they came out orange!!!  But that's another story.........

OK - that's it for now!  Tomorrow we are thinking of heading off to Koh Maak - another smaller, less populated island.  But who knows - maybe we will stay here and 'borrow' the resort for another day!
