Back to the land of the rice patties and Pokemon
Entry 2 of 9 | show all | print this entry |
Arrived at the Nagoya International Airport. They were building this terminal back in 2003 when I left Japan. Everything was pretty well laid out and very nice. I found a place to exchange some money and headed to the train station. Because Melissa was in Malaysia at this time, I needed a hostel for the night. I had a friend make a reservation at one I found on the Internet. Finding it in person would be another matter. I had copied the map that I found on the Internet. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure which direction I was actually going in. So by the time that I finally stopped a young Japanese girl to get some help, I was clear on the other side of the street.
Finally checked in around 9pm at the Aichiken Youth Hostel. This hostel is much larger than a lot of others that I stayed at in Japan. I had a private room with a toilet, but had a shared bath that closed at 10pm.
I was supposed to meet up with my friend Jackie (Yuko), who would be out of town during the rest of my trip. I spent a lot of time on the pay phone trying to reach her, but it was always busy. I found out later that she had dropped and broke her phone while waiting for me at the station. What luck!! Hopefully she will be able to travel to the states next year with her company. Since it was getting late, I decided to retire to my room and get up early for the trek back to the airport the next morning. In retrospect, I would have paid the extra $50 and just stayed at a hotel near the airport. Would have been easier!
